Temperatures

External temperatures can vary between a high of 20 degrees in Lofoten and 10 degrees in Svalbard to a low of 0 degrees or lower in Svalbard. The boat is heated on the inside.

We recommend that for Lofoten you bring warm clothing, with a couple of T-shirts, in case we are lucky with warm weather without wind. For Svalbard, where the weather is decisively rougher, please bring very warm clothing, including waterproof gloves, hats and ski goggles, also considering the shifts where one stays outside for some hours at the time. Also, please think about bringing hiking or glacier boots for Svalbard.

Prices

Prices include the use of basic items for staying on board (i.e. bed linen and safety equipment) and a cruising kitty (calculated to be 30 €/day/person) which will be used for buying food and paying harbour fees.

Prices do not include traveling to and from the place of embarkment, individual insurances, wine, beer, spirits, and communicatons via radio or telephone using the boat's equipment. Specifically to Svalbard, an additional payment of local taxes may be requested, which cannot be defined at this moment, (for instance, taxes related to boarding and landing, local insurances etc, all of which are normally not too dear). Finally, Search and Rescue Insurance (SAR), which is obligatory, is included in the fees.

Timing

Boarding will take place at the latest on the evening preceding the first day of the cruise, as from the programme. Disembarkment will be on the evening of the last day of the cruise.

Flight prices and availability could vary dramatically and generally speaking become less attractive the nearer to the moment of the trip. We suggest booking as early as possible.

In addition...

Participating to a cruise or an expedition with Best Explorer gives you the opportunity of becoming a member of the crew of an ocean going sailing vessel. This means, among other things, helping to create your own adventure. Many tasks are shared among the crewmembers, from handling the sails, to cooking the meals, to determining the position of the boat. You will also have the possiblity of relaxing as well as taking pictures and videos and, if you so desire, extending your sailing skills.
